I'm buying an EV I've never test driven

After two years and six different electric vehicles — BMW, Hyundai, Tesla, Volvo, BYD, MG — I'm putting my own money down for the first time.

It's a Zeekr 7X. And no, I haven't driven it.

That sounds reckless until you consider what those two years taught me. I know exactly what I need: range that doesn't require mental arithmetic before every trip, the ability to tow our caravan, enough space for the dog and a weekend's worth of food and wine, and a heads-up display.

The Zeekr 7X appears to tick every box. Including the one my household considers non-negotiable: pet mode.

What concerns me? I've never sat in it. The brand is new to Australia. The service network is still developing. And there'll almost certainly be a better version next year. But at some point you have to stop researching and start driving. That point is now.

I wrote up the full decision — what made the shortlist, what got eliminated, the novated lease question, and the honest risks I'm accepting.

I've Driven Six EVs. Here's the One I'm Actually Buying.

See you next Friday.
